The finest surface dressing of roads, drives and car parks

Here at J.C. Allfrey & Co. Ltd, we offer a comprehensive service that includes sweeping, trimming edges and patching potholes, or alternatively just the surface dressing or macadam surfacing on areas prepared by others.

Surface dressing is an economic method of resurfacing a road or driveway. Often called "tar and chipping", the binder material used is known as K1-70 but we normally use a polymer modified version called Surfix 80.

Surfix 80 polymer modified hot bitumen emulsion has increased adhesive capabilities and cohesive qualities which provide better results, proving less susceptible to changes in temperature.

How is surface dressing applied?

The hot binder is sprayed onto the cleaned and prepared road surface, followed by an even covering of stone chippings (6mm or 10mm single-size materials).

Soon after laying, the stone dressing is rolled with a power roller.

We offer a variety of stone chippings and colours including:

  • Brown gravel
  • White gravel
  • Buff gravel
  • Grey limestone
  • Grey granite
  • Pink granite basalt
  • Dark grey basalt
  • Red quartzite

Samples can be provided on request.
